OCDSB/YPLS Summer Credit Program

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB), in partnership with the Young People's Language School (YPLS) , is offering the second edition of its summer credit program for newly-arriving international ESL students. This unique 8-week program allows participating students to earn an Ontario high school ESL credit over the summer and consists of three core components.

Program Details

  1. ESL

    Course follows Ontario ESL curriculum and is taught by experienced OCDSB language teachers

  2. Content-Based Language Learning

    Classes focus on developing the English skills specific to such subject areas as Math, Science, Arts, and Canadian Studies, and Health & Physical Education

  3. High School Foundation

    Program provides an orientation for students before their placement in Ottawa high schools and focuses on Writing, Reading, Speaking, Presentation, and Math skills

Schedule: July 6 - August 14, 2020

09:00-12:45 - ESL
12:45-13:30 - Lunch
13:30-15:00 - Content-Based Language Learning
*Weekly Off-site Learning Activities

Schedule: August 17 - August 28, 2020
Monday-Thursday
09:00-11:00 - Morning Class
11:00-11:45 - Lunch
11:45-13:45 - Afternoon Class
*Full Day Activities on Fridays
