When a group of students or educators arrives in Ottawa for an OCENET summer program, a walking and/or bus tour usually takes place within a few days of a group’s arrival. These tours introduce Ottawa to its new guests and provide not only an orientation to the location of main streets and landmarks, but also some interesting details and stories about Canada’s history and system of government. The tours emphasize Ottawa’s role as the capital city of Canada and often include guided walkabouts of Parliament Hill, the Governor-General’s residence and grounds at Rideau Hall, as well as a visit to the Grand Hall in the Museum of History. In addition, these tours allow lots of opportunities for asking questions which provides the visiting groups of students and educators with information about the many cultural and sports events in the city and ways they can experience the wide range of recreational activities the Ottawa area has to offer.
